Personas

Persona is a precise definition of our user and what he whishes to accomplish (Cooper, 1999). Creating personas helps the designer to understand users’ needs, experiences, behaviors and goals.

For this project, two personas were created, based on low level research and assumptions due to time and resources constraints.

The goal of creating these personas was to visualize from another perspective, what would be important to have in the app, and based on their expected behaviour, what would be the easiest way to make them complete their tasks (defining a lean journey).

Scenarios

A persona is typically combined with one or more scenarios. A scenario is a brief story that describes how and why the persona would use the product to complete a specific task in a specific context. The purpose of a scenario is to help the design team visualize how a target user would interact with the product in real-life. This can help with determining the functions and features of the product for design requirements, as well as with developing tasks for usability testing. (CxD Principles and Practices)

With the personas created, and the main scenarios defined, one main scenario was selected for each of them for the deep dive in the user journey and preparation of prototypes.

Purchase an item & offset carbon emissions: Candance loves to follow the trends online and finds online shopping more attractive as she does not need to commute and spend time going from store to store to find something specific. She wants to buy a trouser online, navigate through the app, find the right one for her and see that this item has impact on her carbon footprint. She decided to purchase it but with the option to pay extra in order to offset its carbon emissions.

See carbon footprint history & offset carbon emissions: Sandra has not time (and no interest) in research for information around carbon footprint and environmental-friendly choices. After doing her regular online shopping through the app, she starts to see the carbon emissions related to each item and decides to check her history. She sees the amount compared with routine items, as for example, car trips, which makes it easier to understand, and she decides to offset one of the purchases with more impact.
